A Sports Fans To Do List

Over on Page 2, Jim Caple has the 101 things all sports fans must experience before they die.

Lists like this come out all the time and there's really nothing that sets this one apart, but I thought it would be fun to see how many of these things I have already done in just under 27 years on this earth.

#2: World Cup (every four years in a different country)
I guess the 1994 World Cup counts somewhat, but last summer's trip to Germany was the greatest experience of my life.

#5: NCAA subregional (March, various sites)
1995 in Baltimore, 1998 in Washington D.C.

#11: Premier League Soccer game (fall-spring, England)
May 13, 1995 Chelsea v Arsenal at Stamford Bridge

#20: The Stanley Cup Playoffs (late spring, various NHL cities)
Numerous Capitals playoff games at the old Capital Centre and since-renamed MCI Center

#22: Cubs game in the Wrigley bleachers
May 17, 2006 Nationals at Cubs, long rain delay in the bleachers = lots of Old Style

#24: ACC Basketball Tournament (March, various sites)
2005 edition in Washington D.C.

#27: Tailgating in the SEC (fall, SEC Campuses)
Auburn, check, Georgia, check, Tennessee, Check ... all incredible

#28: US Open Golf (mid-June, various courses)
Twice, 1994 at Oakmont & 1997 at Congressional

#34 MLB Opening Day (April, various cities)
April 2, 2007 Marlins at Nationals

#61: Midnight Madness (October, all over the country)
University of Maryland on six different occasions (4 at Cole Field House, 2 at Comcast Center)

#63: Camp out for tickets (any event)
three times (1998, 2001, 2002) each time for Maryland/Duke Basketball tickets

#87: Monday Night Football (September-Decemeber, various NFL cities)
Septeber 27, 2004 Cowboys at Redskins

So there it is, 12 out of 101 events. Just under 12%. Not bad, eh? I do have to say that two out of the top five and six out of the top twenty-five ain't bad. Does this make me a "good" sports fan? Who knows. I was bored and this seemed like fun.
